International Piano Competition "Minsk-2014"

From December 2-13, 2014, in Minsk at the Belarusian State Philharmonic will be held International Piano Competition "Minsk-2014". Organizers of the competition are Ministry of Culture of the Republic Belarus; Main Management for Ideological Work, Culture and Youth of the Minsk Executive Committee; Belarusian State Academy of Music, Red Banner of Labour State Belarusian Philharmonic and Public Association "Belarusian Union of Musical Workers".

PARTICIPATION TERMS

The International Piano Competition "Minsk-2014" will take place in the period of December 2-13, 2014 in Minsk, Republic of Belarus. The Competition is open for performers aged from 16 to 30 years old inclusive. The age of the participants is defined as dated by December 2, 2014. Participation is allowed for performers who participated in the competitions "Minsk-2000", "Minsk-2005", "Minsk-2010" (except for the First Prize Laureates).

The application can be filled till September 25, 2014 inclusive (the date of delivery is fixed by the postmark). Applications are to be addressed to:

THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS ARE TO BE ENCLOSED WITH THE APPLICATION: 

  • a copy of an identification document;
  • an autobiography;
  • a copy of the musical education certificate, a reference of the educational establishment or place of work;
  • programs for every round (with every piece duration indicated);
  • a color photo (13cm x18cm; can be sent by e-mail or in the electronic version).

Applications and documents are submitted either in Russian or in English. Applications delivered after September 25, 2014 or without the complete package of documents shall not be considered. Applicants admitted to participate in the Competition will be notified by the competition organizers before November 2, 2014. Changes in the performance programs are allowed till October 2, 2014. It is allowed to send the full package of documents in a scanned version to the e-mail given.

FINANCIAL TERMS

All expenses during participation in the competition are covered by the applicant party or by the competitor.

* The Organizing committee doesn’t provide support in getting Belarusian visas, booking rooms in a hotel for the participants and accompanying people.

PROCEDURE OF THE COMPETITION

The Competition probations consist of three rounds: two eliminatory (solo) rounds and one final round accompanied by the symphony orchestra. The number of the participants of the second round is determined by the decision of the jury but not more than 50 % of the participants of the first round. Not more than 6 participants from the second round of the Competition are allowed to participate in the final round. All the pieces of the competition program are performed by heart. The Competition auditions are held in public.

The order of performances is determined by casting lots and is observed till the end of the Competition. The rewarding of the Laureates is held at the last day of the competition. All the Competition Laureates are obliged to free participation in the festive Closing ceremony.

In the first round the competitors perform pieces by Belarusian composers, the list of which to choose from will be provided in Internet (by June 2, 2014), see the link www.bgam.edu.by. Attention! Works by Belarusian authors will be available up to July 10. The organizing committee apologizes for any inconvenience.

The International Jury is made up of prominent Belarusian and foreign masters of musical art.

The final distribution of the rates is made by the Competition jury for each candidature personally.

The jury reserves the right not to award all the prizes, not to confer all the diplomas, and divide the prizes (except the first prize). The decision of the jury is final and cannot be appealed.

The jury tells its decision at the last day of the competition.

PRIZES AND AWARDS

  • I prize and title of Laureate 10000 euro
  • II prize and title of Laureate 8000 euro
  • III prize and title of Laureate 5000 euro 

Three incentive awards of 2 000 Euros each and the title of the Competition diploma winner are awarded to the final round participants of the Competition (except the laureates).

All the prizes are given in Belarusian rubles at the exchange rate of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus active on the date of the prizes presentation.

THE COMPETITION PROGRAMME

I Round

  1. One or several pieces (except sonatas) by J. Haydn, W.A. Mozart, L. van Beethoven, F. Schubert (of the performer's choice).
  2. Two virtuoso etudes (of the performer's choice): 2.1. F. Chopin, op. 10 (except № 3 and № 6) or op. 25 (except № 1, № 2, № 7), 2.2. F. Liszt, A. Skriabin, S. Rachmaninov, S. Prokofiev, C. Debussy.
  3. A piece by a Belarusian composer.

The programme duration is not more than 25 min.

II Round

Pieces of the participant's choice except for the pieces performed during the I round.

The programme duration is 45–50 min.
